Yes, today is my birthday! 29 years ago a nearly 10 pound baby with big blue eyes, lots of black hair and beautiful baby fat came into this world. My mother lovingly called me her orangutan baby because of my good looks ;)
I'm happy to be celebrating this beautiful spring day and thought I'd share some photos of myself and Scout that my good friend Laura recently took. The images are for my website and new blog that is in the works.

I truly love shooting weddings but it's always extra special when you have the opportunity to work with someone you know. Khalil and I went to the same middle and high school way back when and I hadn't spoken to him in years when he contacted me to shoot his and Meghna's wedding. I'm happy to say the smart and handsome groom with a serious talent for the violin hasn't lost his laughter and easy going personality... And to top it all off he found an amazing bride in Meghna.... she's smart, beautiful, thoughtful, friendly and a doctor to boot. I really enjoyed working with these two and their wonderful families on a day that while brutally cold outside was warm and vibrant, filled with love, laughter, and dancing.
Their wedding, a mix of both Indian and American customs, was planned with the help of Daria McGregor of Circle of Love Weddings, and took place at the Holiday Inn in Decatur. I had the opportunity to work with their florist and event designer Shushil of Utopian Events, on past weddings so I knew their event would be truly vibrant and gorgeous. And I wasn't disappointed.

The photos below are from Khalil and Meghna's Mehendi and Pithi Ceremony which took place the day before the wedding.
The Mehendi is a gathering of the brides friends and relatives to bless the bride. The bride's henna is also applied and the ceremony often takes place with the sangeet where the women sing and dance traditional songs.
The Pithi ceremony as I was told at the wedding originated as a way to anoint the groom so that he smelled good for the bride. Online sources say that the ceremony entails rubbing a paste (made from chickpea flour, turmeric, rose water and other ingredients) onto the bride and grooms skin. But at this particular Pithi I'm pretty sure it was a free for all to smear Khalil with all sorts of goo including eggs and mustard... and he did not smell good ;)

Love that in the midst of all of the fun and ritual this little boy is playing a video game.

I'm always happy to hear from the talented writer and stylist Amy Flurry! I was even more thrilled when she asked me to do a photo shoot.
As usual Flurry, along with Atlanta artist Nikki Salk, have been allowing their imaginations to run wild, embarking on A Paper Project, custom-made paper art installations. The pundits of pulp recently sheared paper into whimsically sculptured wigs for New York and Atlanta clothing boutiques Jeffrey. The coiffures graced the crowns of the boutiques stream lined mannequins, attracting the attention of the press and spurring suitors who have commissioned more of the fantastical pieces.
I can't wait to share the pulpy fruit of Amy and Nikki's imagination but for the moment please enjoy a few images of Amy that we shot at Fresh Roots Farm in Atlanta. And stop by their website www.paper-cut-project.com

Chrissy and Brad's beautiful north Gerogia wedding took place at Frogtown Cellars in Dahlonega and had so many gorgeous and thoughtful details. I always love shooting at this winery and it was extra special with Chrissy's attention to color. She does after all have a blog titled The Perfect Palette (wedding style for the color obsessed). Chrissy's color palette included burnt orange, chocolate brown, copper and cinnamon... The colors repeated through out her wedding day in invitations, place cards, menus, favors and flowers were warm and inviting making me think of family. A perfect palette for a wedding.
And I must gush over Chrissy's father for a moment who played the love theme from The Godfather on his accordion at their wedding. The music was the song for the couples first dance and it was kind of hard to take photos with the tears in my eyes. I think that Chrissy and her father had one of the sweetest father daughter dances as well. You'll see in the images below the absolute pride and delight shinning on his face as he holds his baby girl on the dance floor.

I was so excited when this sweet stylish couple found me through the WPJA website. Hyung Mi and Jae were really serious about choosing a wedding photographer with a photojournalistic style and they made sure we had lots of time for photography. They also chose to have a private meeting before the ceremony and I was really happy to be their to capture the moment. Jae was so sweet and adoring and Hyung Mi never stopped smiling even with the occasional wedding day blip like rain.
And one of my favorite things about this couples big day was the fabulous Ashley Baber ; she is an amazing wedding coordinator/planer . Baber always has the answer and she makes every wedding I've shot run as smooth as butter.

This has to be one of my favorite wedding day moments of all time. The bride from the wedding just before Hyung Mi and Jae's wedding at Cathedral of Christ the King saw Hyung Mi and the two brides embraced and shared a nice little moment together.

This cute little ring bearer makes my hear melt!

I just adore this photo of Hyung Mi's parents.

Jennifer and Eddie's Acworth Georgia wedding was such a delight to shoot. Jennifer's bright smile radiated through out the wedding day and it was clear that this couple truly adored one another. They shared so much laughter, joy, sweet glances and kisses that you couldn't help but to feel happy around them.

I think the flower girl really makes this picture special!

Did I mention what a great time everyone had!

This is one of my favorite images from the day taken by my assistant Donald.

Jennifer gave so many strong sweet hugs, this last one to her mother.

Jenny and Corey, married at Roswell United Methodist Church, were one of the sweetest couples I've had the honor to work with. They've been together forever and their beautiful day finally made it official. The feathers, flowers in hair and sparkly chandeliers at Founders Hall gave the reception and photos a Parisian feel.

Recently my husband and I had the opportunity to spend a long weekend in Park City Utah celebrating a friends birthday and learning how to ski! We had such a wonderful weekend and can't wait for next year. While I didn't take my camera out on the slopes I did manage to capture some wintery landscapes.

One late afternoon while walking through Park City I was so excited to spot this piece by graffiti artist Banksy. The artist left his mark on the town during the recent Sundance Film Festival which debuted his first film Exit Through The Gift Shop. While some consider his work vandalism I like many others love his clever urban art. It's quite obvious Park City appreciates his art as well having put a piece of plexi glass over the work.

I recently came home one afternoon - after "playing" in my painter friend, Jen Keim's, studio - to find a beautiful stream of late afternoon sunlight projecting onto my living room wall. I set up several still lifes in front of the light and took pictures of the shadows they made. But my favorite shadow is the one my miniature schnauzer Scout made when she came over to check out what I was up to.
I love the first image of her fluffy little face in silhouette and the second of her cotton ball tail sticking straight up. She always finds a way to make me happy!

While Scout pounced after snowflakes and hopped through the snow during our afternoon walk yesterday I snapped a few portraits of the silhouetted landscape along our street. I love the rare occasions that it snows in Atlanta and our city is transformed into an other worldly environment.

Our dear friends Sabrina and Kevin gave birth to a beautiful baby boy just in time for Christmas this past year. I fall in love with Hunter a little more every time I see him! I can't help but to love his sweet little toes and fingers and all of his gurgling baby sounds.
The following are my favorite images from his newborn shoot. Thanks for being such an adorable subject Hunter... I look forward to seeing your grow and thrive. Love you Brannons!

The Brannons have adopted the penguin as their family mascot of sorts. The couple decided not to find out the sex of the baby until his birth so they called him the penguin. I love this little cap.

It's 24 degrees, cold, and windy... my hands and feet are numb from taking Scout on a walk but my mind is drifting back to my December sailing vacation. My husband and I spent 10 days in the British Virgin Islands sailing on catamarans with some amazing friends.
And I have absolutely nothing to complain about; how in the world can you complain when you're in paradise!
I loved that it was almost Christmas in the islands... it was surreal to see so many christmas decorations in such a tropical environment. Many boats including our own were decked out in christmas lights and on one of our first nights I remember being super excited to hear a steel drum band play and then realizing it was Christmas music.
Cheers to beautiful sunsets, sea turtles, sand on my feet, warm water curling up next to my body, reggae music, pina coladas, palm trees, double rainbows, the Three Little Indians, jello shots, Joy, barracudas, snorkeling, The Soggy Dollar Cafe, boys floating in pink polka doted inner tubes, coral, exotic fish, lazing the day away in a bikini, bright beach towels, meeting people you know in the middle of no where, buildings painted pink, green, and yellow, balmy air, anegada lobsters, The Willy T, impromptu games of hop scotch and imaginary double dutch, Foxys, John and Jeff, fluffy clouds, chickens sunning on the beach and clucking around just about everywhere, Ginger and Candy, The Baths, flying kites that drag you down the beach, the Union Jack, doing things that Florence H. would do, and the call of the conch shell

Something about this image I really love... It makes me think that Van Gogh's Potato Eaters have decided to take a vacation.
I dedicate this photo to Danny S., who loves cruisers especially when our desolate island is swarmed ;)

I recently had the opportunity to do another boudoir session and while I can't show too many of the images in order to protect the privacy of my client I just thought I'd share the image below. I've had the opportunity to do quite a few of these photo sessions in the past year and I think they really are a beautiful way to express the human body. They are also really empowering and fun for my clients. While most of the shoots have been for a husband or boyfriend I've also had some ladies request a session just because.
